Kaki

For Singapore's buses, MRT and footpaths

Know when to leave, before you think to check.

Kaki is an iPhone assistant for your day in Singapore. It plans every trip, watches live bus and train times, and puts when to leave on your lock screen. You'll never open a bus app again.

What Kaki does

On your lock screen

A Live Activity counts down to leaving: “Leave in 9 minutes”, your bus, the walk and when you'll get there. It shows from 20 minutes before you leave and follows you to the door.

Quiet until it matters

Kaki buzzes only when the plan changes: your bus vanished from the live feed, a faster one is coming, or the line you take is disrupted. Otherwise it stays silent.

Your day, not just a commute

Work, school, the gym, dinner in Tampines: every day can be different. Kaki plans any trip from any place, and you can skip, move or repeat trips in a tap.

Every way there

Every direct bus from LTA's network, MRT and LRT rides from LTA's timetable, changes between them, and walking when that's quickest. You pick the ways Kaki watches.

The day around the trip

Rain at your stop, haze (PSI), heat, MRT disruptions, the last train home. Kaki tells you what's worth knowing and what to bring: an umbrella, a mask, water.

Talk to Kaki

“Running 10 minutes late.” “No gym on Thursday.” “What time did I get home last Tuesday?” Kaki changes your plans and answers, in English or 简体中文.

How it works

  1. Tell Kaki your week

Where you go and when, Monday to Sunday. Or skip it, and tell Kaki as you go.

  2. Kaki watches

Live bus arrivals, train times, the weather and disruptions, for every trip ahead.

  3. Leave when it says

The answer is on your lock screen. If the plan changes, you'll feel one buzz.

Questions

What is Kaki?

Kaki is a personal assistant for getting around Singapore by public transport. You tell it your week (where you go and when), and it plans each trip, watches the live bus and train times, and shows when to leave on your iPhone's lock screen and Dynamic Island. It buzzes only when the plan changes.

How is Kaki different from a bus arrival app?

A bus arrival app waits for you to open it and look up a stop. Kaki already knows your trips, so the answer (leave in 9 minutes for bus 54) is on your lock screen before you think to check. It also handles MRT rides, walking, changes between buses and trains, and the weather on the way.

Where do Kaki's bus and train times come from?

Live bus arrivals come from LTA DataMall, the Land Transport Authority's official data. Train times come from LTA's published MRT and LRT timetable, and MRT disruptions from LTA's train service alerts. Routes and walking times come from Google Maps. Weather, haze (PSI and PM2.5) and heat come from NEA through data.gov.sg.

Does Kaki work outside Singapore?

Not yet. Kaki covers Singapore's buses, MRT and LRT, where real-time public transport data is excellent. Homes outside Singapore aren't accepted for now.

Does Kaki track my location?

No. Kaki uses your location only on your phone, only while a trip is under way (from about 20 minutes before you leave until you arrive), to move the card along. The server hears events such as "left" and "arrived" with their times and bus stop codes, never your position.

Is Kaki on Android?

Kaki is built for iPhone first, because it lives in iOS features like Live Activities, the Dynamic Island and widgets. An Android app is planned later.

What languages does Kaki speak?

English and Simplified Chinese (in Singapore's words: 巴士, 地铁, 巴士站). Kaki follows your iPhone's language.

When can I get Kaki?

Kaki is in testing on iPhone now and is coming to the App Store. Email pan@dailykaki.com to hear when it's out.
